Una Hargrave
Una lives in Billingshurst with her husband Roger, a retired librarian whom she married in 2001. She has been drawing and painting in her spare time since childhood.
After 11 years working in an Advertising and Public Relations company in Dover Street, London, she married, raised 3 children and began studying full-time on a 4-year teacher training course, graduating in the 70's with a B.Ed degree.
She spent 18 years teaching marketing subjects at Crawley College, specialising in Design, Advertising, and Public Relations.
Retiring in 1996, Una began devoting more time to creative pursuits, taking courses in Life Drawing, Book Illustration, Painting and Sculpture.
She has written and illustrated a book for children, writes poetry with the Downland Poets who meet regularly in Eastbourne, and is a keen photographer. If you Google her name, you will get a picture of Una in the Sussex Sculpture Studio, sculpting a portrait head of Roger.
Una joined The Downland Art Society in November 2007 as an Associate member and, having won the Kay Seear Award, has progressed to full membership. Fascinated by underwater sea-life, she is currently painting tropical fish using acrylic paint from images supplied by Len Deeley, underwater photographer.
